i have a 1988 mercury cougar, with a 302 engine with all emission control, just had a tune up and all sencors changed to include the fule air mixture.. my vehicle now will not sart right away and idles really rough,with black smoke bellowing out the exhaust, when the car is warmed up and hot it runs fine.. but that about it, it stalls at lights and revs up and down like it wants to take off, any help i would gladly appreciate it

I would suspect a problem with the idle control solenoid or possible a shorting/crossed spark plug wire as my first areas to check. Make sure your plug wiring and firing order is correct. If you have the old valve,clean it out with carb clean and put it back on, see if it solves the problem, unless this is what you were originally trying to remedy w/tune up,etc.Black smoke is an indication of it running rich

Reply to Gene's Post: i changed out idle control selenoid already and have new plug wires, and all is correct any other suggestions, it makes me want to blow it up( just kidding)

Reply to Gene's Post: i changed out the sensors that are located on the upper part of the muffler not sure thats what you call it. had that problem with them on my pick up, iam not a car mechanic. but i read alot about it, I work on Army helicopters, and just want to thank you for helping
