I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis with 92,000K on a 4.6L V-8 engine. I was just entering I-95 when I was cut off by a slower moving car. In a fit of misplaced anger I punched the gas peddle to the floor and sped around the still slowly moving car. Well beating on my own old engine didn't feel good for but a brief minute or so because my car started over heating an lost all the collant. My question is where might it be leaking because my oil isn't mixed with coolant leading me to believe that I did not blow a head gasket, though maybe errantly. underneath the car I can see water pouring to the ground from around where the heater core is but it's dribbeling off everything it touches giving me no real clues. I bypassed the hearter core and found that not to be the problem. Also the floor on the front passengers seat was not wet or damp. This engine as you must know is packed tightly under the hood and makes it extremely difficult to see where the leak is. There is a 1 inch diameter fan designed element that looks to be built into the engine wall right behind the generator that I see coolant pour from yet not all the time. Is this a freeze plug location and might I have blown more than one freeze plug? Also F.Y.I. I reattached my heater hoses and sometimes I have no heat. Please help me locate where my leak(s) may be. Thanx and pardon the writing ... I'm at work.
