1995 mercury mystique

Sent to Car Experts August 15 12:29 AM

Why does my 1995 mercury mystique not fire after it has run then been shut off for an hour or so. Then after a couple more hours it cranks just fine.

You need to first test a few functions during the failure.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester.
2) Test for injecter pulse using a small bulb called a noid light.
3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Here a pic of what the noid lights look like

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: I am not getting spark after car has run and been shut off for about an hour or so. Then after another hour or so it will crank just fine. I have already replaced the coil pack and am now leaning towards the Ignition Control Module. My belief is that if it were the crankshaft sensor the check engine light would be coming on.The ICM is about 150.00 and I don't want to spend that much money if it isn't going to fix my problem. To repeat the car cranks fine when cold. Then after it has run for a while and been shut off for a while it will not crank. NO Spark. If you try to crank it immediately after turning it off it craks fine it is only after it sits for about an hour sometimes a little longer.
