1999 mercury cougar oil light blinks on and off and when blinks on you will hear a knock inthe motor. Think it might be oil pump?

I would have the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge to ensure the system pressure is correct. Allot of things can cause a knock, a worn bearing or rod. The oil pump could be failing and I would start with having the pressure checked. I would not drive this vehicle very far.
