I have a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300D and having a transmission problem in spite of having it in the transmission repair shop a couple of times without success.

The car shifts fine until the engine heats up to normal and have driven about 8-10 miles.
What happens then is it begins to shift hard from 1-2 or 2-3 upshift, but not all the time. The up shift builds and will not take place, then when I let off the accelerator, the transmission disengages losing power. I them must coast to a stop. At that point after stopping the transmission re-engages and I can drive off. This also may happen when rounding a corner and it downshifts to 2nd and the same senario. I have had this checked out by my mechanic and the transmission shop. They cannot duplicate the problem. What do you think?

Hi there, a couple of questions. How many miles on your car? Have you had any major work on your tranny? If not, unfortunatly it sounds like your tranny needs to be re-built. There are many things that can go wrong with auto trannys when they have hi miles. The bands wear out, the torque converter might be shot, and seals begin to leak. One thing that is easy to check however is the fluid level in the tranny. Check this when the car is warm and with it running in park.
See if it is overfilled. sometimes if they are overfilled, when they warm up it can affect shifting. I hope this helps. Get back to me if you have more questions.

The car has 80,000 miles. Last Dec 06 The transmission was worked on. The service was new assembly set, exchange torque converter, rear band, filter, fluid change and flush cooling lines. Work is under warranty, but they say they cannot find anything wrong with it. It was in the shop for the last 2 weeks and could not reproduce the problem I experience.

With that kind of work done it should run fine. Without challenging the work of your shop, I would insist that they honor their warranty work. have them keep the car until they find whats wrong with the tranny. Sounds to me as if they messed something up with their rebuild.
