the driver's side electronic window will not close

Sent to Car Experts April 29, 2007 10:39 a.m.

the driver's side electronic window will not close anymore, after making funny noises for about two months. Is there a way I can at least have it close now until I can get it to a mechanic? Or can I replace something myself to make it work completely like new? Thank you.

Optional Information:
1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 3.1 Liter

Already Tried:
making sure window lock is not engaged, trying manually to pull window upwards to close

First off does the battery need to be disconnected before I attempt this? Also Where can I view instructions on how to enter into the door liner without damaging it if possible? Then once removed how do I remove the motor and reinstall it? Also can I replace this regulator myself?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

  • The battery should be disconnected any time an electrical repair is being made.
  • There are no step by step instructions, but I have posted the illustration for the door panel below, which shows the locations of the hold down clips.
  • Once the liner is removed the motor is held to the regulator by (3) bolts, the regulator is held to the door with 1/4 rivits which need to be drilled out.
  • This procedure requires moderate skill level, you should be able to complete it if you have done similar repairs before...you will need a 1/4 in rivit gun and rivits to re-secure the regulator when re-installing.
