1992 mazda mx6: A/C fan only works on the last 2 of 4 settings. And A/C only engages on fan setting #1 (which does not start fan).

Optional Information:
1992 Mazda mx6

Already Tried:
changing out fan speed selector switch. Same thing with different switch

Normally when you have fan speed problems like that the first suspect is the blower resister mounted near the blower motor but the compressor issues you describe point more to the switch being the problem.

If you have a ground sensing testlight, you can check the switch outputs to the resister at the resister.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: Will have to round up ground testing equipment. I still don't see the correlation between the fan and the ac.

Turning the Blower switch on supplies compressor "ON" switching.

After reviewing the wiring diagram on this model I seee that this is done through the blower resister so there is a very good chance of it being the blower resister instead of the switch although either could cause it.

In this case the resister supplies the grouns fro both the blower motor and the compressor switch.
