I have a 1990 mazda mpv that started haveing chassis elec. problems first with the cig. lighter not working. Now there is no interior lighting and the radio and clock have gone kaput. Replace light bulbs and checked all fuses. Do not have voltmeter. Haynes book says there is a CPU but must only be tested by a pro in a shop. Suggestions please.

1990 Mazda MPV 4cyl.5speed. 158K. Cig. lighter stopped working. could not find problem. Ignored problem until recently when interior lights failed and radio and clock stopped working. Have replaced bulbs and checked all fuses. Do not have voltmeter. Haynes book says there is a CPU unit that may cause this problem but recommends that it only be tested in a shop.
Should I go through this expense or could there be another solution?
