my mazda was acting like it had water in the gas tank

my 91' mazda 626 was acting like it had water in the gas tank. I ran the gas down and added new gas with a additive and started to drive. 3 miles down the road it would not excelerate and then died. When it was running, it would jerk due to power lost. Thanks
