I have a 92 Lincoln Town Car. When I drive it any distance and turn it off at a stop it will not start. After letting it sit about an hour it will start on the first try. The battery is good, the starter was replaced but did not correct the problem. Security system problems have been ruled out. It will not jump start. A diagnostic (hand held tool) sites insufficient ERG valve flow.

Hello and thanks for using just answer, the insufficient egr flow is not going to make the car not start, that is more than likely clogged egr ports, it sounds like you either have a bad fuel pump or a bad crank sensor, when this happens turn the key to the run position and see if you can here the fuel pump running, it would also be a good idea to see what the fuel pressure readings are. if the pressures are 40 or better when you turn the key the pressures are good. I hope this helps

Reply to Jim's Post: The starter celenoid will not engage. It is not the fuel pump and it is not the crank sensor. I didn't realize I needed to specify that the engine does not turn over at all.

if the engine wont crank and you have replaced the starter, it sounds as if you may have a bad starter solenoid, first i would check the cables from the starter to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the battery, and the ground for the battery as well, use a volt meter to check the ohms in the cables, make sure they are unhooked from each of the components you should not have any resistance in the cables, if you do you need to replace them. heat increases the resistance in the cables and could very well be the trouble
