1991 Lincoln Town Car makes a noise like a fan touching the radiator. It is in the back of the engine. It increases with the engine. What is it? Car has been sitting for over a year. It has 165,000 miles. Engine sounds good except for the sound of a fan touching something. It is definately not the radiator fan.
It has the overhead cam engine. Is there a fan in the air intake? When we shut off the engine and restarted; it was not as loud. I thought if it was an oil problem on something ; allowing it to run awhile would lubricate the touching of the fan on something. Really didn't help. Dorrell Stone

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hello,

Near the back of the motor there is an egr valve that has a small metal line running to it. Check this line to see if a hole has rusted in it. This is a common problem. It will allow an exhaust leak that will sound about like the sound you are descibing. There is not a fan in the intake. The other things you may want to check are the torque converter bolts or the dust cover. Make sure the air ride compressor is not making noise.

Hope this helps....PLEASE ACCEPT

Thanks, Dean
