I have 98 Lincoln Navigator. The air suspension compressor is not engaging. During the trouble shooting process I found the problem. The circuit is over heating. The compressor relay connector was melting away. I guess I'm lucky. It could have caused a fire. What could cause circuit 538 to overheat and how do I fix this?

Sounds like you have a shorted relay. They don't cost much, and are easy to replace. If the connector is melted to bad, may need to replace that too. Make sure wires aren't touching each other.
