1999 Lincoln Rear Disk Rotor Removal

Sent to Car Experts May 29, 2005 2:56 p.m.

on a 1999 Licoln continental, I can't remove the rear rotor, it seems to be frozen in place. Is it possible I have to remove the center bearing Nut first. The new rotor only has a large opening in the center so it doesn't appear like I should have to.

Maybe there are two different versions for that rear rotor.

REPLIED Check Mark

It's just corroded around the hub. Spray some penetrating oil around the hub and hit it with a hammer from the rear.

I appreciate the quick response.
However, I've already done the obvious stuff like soak it in penetrating oil on both sides and I hit the heck out of it with a hammer. I even applied some heat with a torch but I stopped because the penetrating oil started to catch on fire.

It's only after I tried all this and looked at pictures of two different rotor types that I asked my question. One oicture looked like the replacement I bought and the other has the middle hole attached to a collar of some type. Therefore I am worried that the middle collar is actually part of the rotor. Either way I need to know how to get it off without ruining anything else.

I don't have a picture readily available here. I will have to research it tomorrow.
