Question

my kia optima v will sometimes hesitate when up shifting

Sent to Car Experts January 04, 2006 11:10 p.m.

My 01' Kia Optima V6 will sometimes hesitate when up shifting from second to third gear. What I notice is it kinda hesitates then starts to shift, the engine revs and it finally drops into the proper gear. Hot or cold, easy take off or hard. It's been doing this since the day it was new. It also jerks if I stop accelerating between the second and third gear. I also noticed the problem seems to get better when I have a lot of stop and go traffic, while it gets worse after taking longer trips on a highway. I have taken the car to a few dealerships, but they never read any troble signals from the computer and nobody seemed to know the cause of the problem.
I have had the transmission oil changed twice and the computer has been reprogrammed. The trouble came back after some time.

Optional Information:
2001 Kia Optima 2.4 L V6

Already Tried:
Transmission fluid change, Computer being reprogrammed

ACCEPTED Check Mark

I have not worked with a Kia. I have had a simular problem with a dodge and once on a Chevy. It turned out the linkage needed adjusting. It was holding the TPS sensor off just enough to fool the computor.

Hope this helps, if so please accept.

Not knowing much about this problem, I will need to take it to a mechanic in the next few weeks. I hope he will be able to do the necessery adjustments. Tank you for the tip though. Many mechanics were not able to come up with any acceptable answer at all. Your explanation seems right. By the way, my '01 Kia Optima has a Mitsubishi built transmision in it.

Thank you again!
