Here is the bleeding procedure.

Bleed power hydraulic system

< cellSpacing=10 cellPadding=1> <> < vAlign=top>CAUTION : < vAlign=top>Use only HSMO when filling reservoir.

  1. Drive car on ramp (wheels must support weight on car).
  2. Top up power hydraulic reservoir.
  3. Apply parking brake and put transmission in park.
  4. Start engine and raise ramp.
  5. Disconnect ride height sensor link rod at suspension wishbone.
  6. Raise sensor link approximately 1 inch. Rear on car will rise.
  7. Switch engine OFF when relief valve is heard and pulsing is felt in strut feed pipe.
  8. Remove bleed adaptor cover (at left strut) and connect a hose for bleeding.
  9. Open bleed screw and allow fluid to flow until suspension lowers fully.
  10. Lower ramp and top up reservoir.
  11. Start engine and repeat bleeding operation.
  12. Remove bleed hose and reinstall dust cover.
  13. Lower ramp and top up reservoir.
  14. Start engine and raise ramp.
  15. Raise rear of car by moving sensor link.
  16. When pulsing is felt in strut feed pipe, reconnect sensor link to suspension wishbone. Car will return to normal ride height.
  17. Lower ramp and top up reservoir

< cellSpacing=10 cellPadding=1> <> < vAlign=top>NOTE : < vAlign=top>1990-92 cars ONLY

  1. Start and run engine for 30 seconds.
  2. Turn steering wheel lock to lock three times.
  3. Run engine an additional 1 minute.
  4. Switch engine OFF and let car stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Top up reservoir after 5 minutes.

I'm still not getting it to work though, I bled the system , a lot of air came out then some fluid, but it will not try to fill back up, I personally think that the height sensor is'n't woring, by taking off the linkage and pushing the rod up should activated the pump. but it did'nt remember the fluid only dribbled out of the bleeder , not shot out and now the car is even lower and more bouncier then it was originally how can i charge the rear suspension? I'd like to by pass the hieght sensor if possible, I know the clip has six wires, If I can somehow bypass the height sensor yo tell the pump to kick in directly and fill up I just don't how to test it... You showed me how to try to activate the sensor I beleive the reastat inside the sensor is bad I'd like to take clip on the backside of the sensor and jump it but I don't want to cross the wrong wires could you find out how to test this system other then just lifting the rod up on the sensor? please call me at 434 996-9991 anytime 2moro please I really can use the help you can offer me I'm on the ba... of as.. with this car I'm probably going to lose my job this constantly giving me trouble it's down almost as much as it's up

Pump needs to be bypassed is this possible on a 1990 xj40, xj6! electricall I think my hieght sensor is not working. I need to ump the motor it did some air was told to bleed it while the engine is running, now I've been told to do it while the engine is off. my back is sill down the fluid did'nt come shooting thru, but it did come thru slowly on bleeding it. the scehmatic that was given matched the shock tower , but not the relay location.. or the valve body?

Reply to autodoc_2000's Post: that did'nt work! it seems like all the answers here are not what I'm looking for my question was asked becaused I was told that the reason why the level ride wasn't working is because the line had air in the system.... that isn't right the pump is operating I beleive by all the pulsating in the line in the front engine compartment but it seems like the fluid not making it to the back where the shocks are... I found a selonoid over the rear control arm , I also dicconected the hieght sensor, how can i bypass that sensor I beleive the reostat in the hieght sensor is bad, my thoughts are the six wires in the clip would need to be jumped directly does anybody have this answer????
