I have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2l, v-6, Double overhead cam. Having major issues setting the timing. My boyfriend is a mechanic and has tried setting it repeatedly as has his boss, but they claim the shematics given to them must be wrong. I have had other ppl tell me that the schematics for timing this vehicle ARE wrong. Can you help?

Reply to gmplus's Post: The best way to explain what it does is that it is shuddering and running rough when started. Whole engine vibrates. Before the timing belt change was attempted it ran fine

Compression has been checked already and is good. We worked on it some tonight and it turns over hesitantly, runs rough for a minute or so, then shuts off. I can upload you the specs we have if u tell me how to do it or email them as there are 3 files.

The tensioner was removed, put in a vice and a allen wrench was used to hold it retracted. My boyfriend and his boss did this at least 3 times before giving up. They went step by step through the specs each time. When he and I went work on it earlier, we too went step by step and STILL can't seem to get the darn thing timed. I also went to carfax to see if the vehicle had any recalls on it that HAD not been taken care of and it came back clean.

I'm kind of walking into this blindsided as I had 12 major surgeries and when I returned home from the last the timing was the issue at hand. I have just been told when I questioned deeper that the cam sensor, water pump, and egr valve had all been changed at the same time as well. I have been told that there are no codes stored to continue troubleshooting by and that is why the 2 had stopped. Being that they did so much work to get to what appeared to be the last leg and not being to set the timing. Neither are REAL familiar with working on Rodeos since they mainly handle american made...
