clutch does not disengage-95 isuzu rodeo 4x
Sent to Car Experts June 20 01:00 AM

with the engine running I can move the shifter through all the gears w/o depressing the clutch pedal. there's no noise or change in engine speed. I bled the clutch and damper. i got the vehicle in this condition from a tow yard, so i have no prior history. the ignition lock was jacked and the switch was pulled down, so i presumed it was just a recovered theft. the odometer shows 68k mi. and the overall condition bears that out. do these things just jam up or what.

Optional Information:
1995 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2

Already Tried:
bled clutch, did a visual for obvious broken/bent parts, kinked or leaking lines.

Hello,

My name is Pete. I was a technician for 30 years, fully certified by ASE, and more. I still hold 6 of my certifications (now retired) Ok enough about me.

Well, I can tell you this does not sound good. It sounds to me like you need a new clutch, pressure plate & throwout bearing. OK, you do not have any engagement. IE: clutch does nothing. If it were a problem with the hydraulics, slave cylinder, master cylinder, etc .., the clutch would not DISENGAGE. No, nothing is ''jammed up''. Again, the clutch would be engaged ALL the time. IE: You would not be able to get it into gear with the engine running. The fact that you can put it in gear without the clutch tells me the clutch is toast! Not uncommon with theft recovery vehicles. maybe the person who stole the vehicle learned how to drive stick shift on this vehicle. At any rate, anytime you can put the car in gear, with the engine running and not depress the clutch, you have a vehicle that needs the clutch replaced. I'm sorry I have to give you such bad news, but I'm just being honest. That's what it is going to be. The clutch is not ENGAGING. When the clutch is not ''disengaging,'' you cannot get it into any gear with the engine running. When you can put it in any gear you want without the clutch being depressed, and the engine running, you have a clutch that does not engage. Reply to Pete's Post: Pete,
Thank you for your reply. However by the time I received it, I had already dropped the trans and pulled the clutch. Your answer was dead on; even the flywheel looks iffy. anything else I should look for putting it back in?
