Sent to Car Experts October 25, 2005 9:00 a.m.

I have a 91 Isuzu Trooper. I am putting in a new fuel pump, & I've made a mistake of not marking my fuel lines. I know there's the main fuel line, vapor line, & fuel return line. Any suggestions on figuring this out?

Optional Information: 1991 Isuzu trooper 4 cyl

If you follow the lines you can figure out which is which...

The fuel feed (pressure) line will lead to the fuel rail on the engine, passing through the fuel filter on the way.

The fuel return line will run forward to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

The vent line will most likely be the smallest of the three and lead to the charcoal canister or to a solenoid valve.

To identify the connections on the fuel sender in the tank, you may have to remove the sender or look at the old one you removed. The line that the fuel pump is connected to is the pressurized one that should go to the fuel filter and then to the fuel rail. The return line just empties into the tank and probably has no internal connection inside the tank.

I am not sure about your specific model, but most manufacturers use different diameter fuel lines for the various connections to avoid mixups. Usually the pressurized line to the filter is largest.

I hope this is helpful; if so, an accept would be most appreciated! Thanks!
