99 Isuzu Trooper Transmission wont shift gears ...

99 Isuzu Trooper Transmission wont shift gears when in drive position, reverse, low, 2 and 3 work. I'm not sure that 3 works properly. I need to know what possible causes with the exception of low trans fulid, could cause this. Any external sensors that come into play here on this transmission. Thanks for your help.

There is a Transmission range switch,which tells the processor which gear range you have selected. It is possible it is not telling the trans you have selected Drive. Being that it seems to be ok in the lower gear ranges says that those clutch packs appear to be ok. If it feels like it is not shifting properly in 3rd range,it may indicate an internal problem. I do not list a test proceedure for testing this sensor. I am sure there is one.But I would recommend having a diagnostic check done for any codes before hanging on a part,this way you are sure there is a problem with it and you are not wasting any money on a part that doesn't need to be replaced.
