I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. I need to adjust the low-beam headlights. How can this be done. I can not find any adjustment screws.

Optional Information:
2002 Hyundai Elantra 4 cylinder

Already Tried:
Look under hood, Stop at several Auto Stores, no repair manuals and some looked under hood and said that the headlights were not adjustable. It is dangerous for me to drive with headlight focused short on the road

I believe your headlamps are adjustable. there should be a couple openings in your headlamp assembly to make the adjustments. you will need either a philips or a torx(star) driver.

The process is:
  1. Inflate the tires to the specified pressure and remove any loads from the vehicle except the driver, spare tire, and tools. (can be done without driver in car)
  2. The vehicle should be placed on a flat level surface.
  3. Draw vertical lines (vertical lines passing through respective headlamp centers) and a horizontal line (horizontal line passing through center of headlamps) on a screen. Or aim at flat surface and adjust until even or where desired.
  4. With the headlamp and battery in normal condition, aim the headlamps. Make vertical and horizontal adjustments to the lower beam using the adjusting wheel

If the adjustments are to high, low, left or right readjust until they are where you are happy with them.

Reply to Big Dave's Post: I looked at the above and found what I think was a hole that maybe could adjust it. I tried two different sizes of phillips screwdrivers and nothing seemed to happened. I looked through the hole with a flashlight and I did not see a screw to turn. I need more details, I guess. How can I adjust them. One hole for up and down, right and left? I don't see how that is possible.

  • There should be something in the opening that is meant to turn. If not it is possibly broken and no longer adjustable.
