01 hyundai problems
Sent to Car Experts August 05 04:30 PM

I just installed a Cold AIr intake into my 2001 hyundai Tibby, and since then, I have been noticing a decrease in fuel economy, and my "Check engine light" is always on. not to mention my RPMs are much lower, and constintly on the verge of stalling. every so often the car will have problems accelerating from a stop. did I install something incorectly, or is there a problem with the part?

This is affecting the PCM control of these functions because it throws off the sensor rreadings to it. I would consult the dealer to see if they can reprogram the PCM to compensate for the aftermarket part.

Hope this helped, if so please accept.
Thankyou,

Reply to Firsthogman's Post: I'll give them a call, but I doubt that they can (or will) help me, because the car is still under Warrantee. I was hoping to find a fix that wouldn't involve the dealer.
although, if they do help me out, then I will come back and accept your help.
thanks for your time.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retreive the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will get you pointed in the right direction. If you have an AutoZone in your area, they will read them for free.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: Auto Zone did in fact read my codes for me for free, and the problem is that it is my Throttle Position Sensor. I called the dealer and since it only has 45,000 miles on it, it should be under warenty, but I kind of doubt that it will be since I installed the Cold Air Intake. if not, this part will cost almost $60...

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: well, Hyundai solved the problem. armed with the information that I recieved from Autozone, I went to them (though very wary of the fact that I had an aftermarket part on my car, I thought that they would try and screw me out of my warrantee) that was not the fact, but they also found other problems after they replaced the TPS (the mass airflow sensor was in backwards, how that happens I can't know) that kept it from running smoothly.

I'm sure the MAF got messed up when the cold air intaker was installed. Glad you got it squared away.
