Sent to Car Experts July 14, 2005 12:05 p.m.

Hyundai elantra 1992
the ignition switch began to get hot and a few days later it started to smoke... that same day the engine killed and it won't crank. What should i do? What sounds like it could have caused it?

I would try replacing the ignition switch. If you had a short there should be a blown fuse/fusible link.Arcing inside the switch would make it hot and start to smoke and eventually fail.It most likely has burnt contacts that couldn't make a steady connection and overheated the switch inside.
