I have a 1986 GMC Jimmy S-15 2.8L TBI with a Harrison R4 A/C compressor. The compressor clutch no longer engages when I turn the A/C on (the blower does operate normally). I disconnected the wiring harness from the connector on the compressor clutch coil and measured at the harness connector end (which normally plugs into the coil)--13.5V with engine and A/C on and 0V with engine off or on and A/C off. Also checked the low pressure switch on the accumulator. Voltage went to 0 when unplugged, back to 13.5 when plugged back in. Next I applied voltage from another battery to the still unplugged leads on the coil (engine
off, of course). Clutch engaged every time. Also checked resistance of coil--4.2 ohms. But when I plug the harness back into the coil, it shows only .5V at the the coil connection with A/C and engine on and, of course, no clutch engagement. There is a small diode that jumps the two leads at the connector. Could this be at fault?
