Why does my 1981 GMC 4x4, 350, 4 speed manual shift, make a growling noise and cause my gear shift lever to chatter out of control whenever I accelerate at around 50 MPH or more. This all started happening after I had a lube and oil change done at Wal-Mart's auto service center. At first I thought it might be the U-joints, but I manually checked them all and they all seemed very tight and fine. "No slack" But I still get a clunking sound when I try to rotate my driveline back and forth when it is in gear.

Hello,

Hand checking your u-joints don't always work. If a joint seizes you will not have any play by a hand check. If they seize they will not move or flex causing stress on the driveline. If you are getting a clunk from the driveline and vibration, I would check the u-joints a little closer.

Hope this helps.....PLEASE ACCEPT

Thanks, Dean
