I have a 94 GMC Safari van, V-6, fuel injected, all wheel drive. While driving home it suddenly shut down, like a switch going off. It has lots of volts in the battery, will turn over the engine, but not start. I no longer hear the fuel pump when the key is turned to on. Also the headlights and radio wont come on now either. Radio fuse is okay. I am wondering where are and how to find and check other likely fuses, or fusible links or circuit breakers or something. I have a Haynes manual but its wiring diagrams are useless to me. I need help with diagnosing and locating the likely culprit. Thank you for your help.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: Yes, all of the dash lights come on like normal and the starter turns over the engine. Headlights, lInterior lights and radio do not come on. Turn signals work, power windows work. This is likely to be unrelated, but I did drop keys into the defroster vent two hundred miles before this sudden brake down. The keys can be heard in the plastic snorkel tube connecting to the defroster air duct. The heater blower still works. I think this is unrelated as my rattling of the defroster tube was quite gentle and I have looked under the dash, and found nothing disturbed or unusual from the very limited attempt to retrieve the keys.

Anytime you have an electrical problem, you should check ALL fuses, both inside and and under the hood with a 12 volt test light, not by pulling them and looking at them...they can still be bad and you have to have the headlight switch turned to ON to check that/those fuse(s). The fusible links are down at the starter solenoid and those have to be checked with a test light as well. If yours is a 94 with throttle body injection and not a VORTEC 4.3, then remove the air cleaner assy and remove the inside engine cover and turn it over...is fuel being sprayed out of the injectors?

If it's a VORTEC 4.3, then pull the intake hose loose at any point of it on top of the radiator support, and spray some brake cleaner or carb spray in there and put the boot back on and tighten the clamp and turn it over...does it start/pop at all?

I will accept your answer but it was rather generic and not specifically helpful. You had me testing the solenoid, and I wrote the engine turns over fine. You had me checking injectors for fuel spray yet I wrote the fuel pump is not heard. The problem was electrical, and the battery cable harness.
