99 gmc sierra with heavy duty 7 prong wire ...

99 gmc sierra with heavy duty 7 prong wire connector with converter so it can plug into a 4 wire flat trailer wire. When plugged in, running lights on trailer are dim, the left turn signal does not work and when right turn signal is activated in car, both trailer lights blink as if i had my flashers on. Is this a truck problem, connector problem or trailer wiring problem. Help!
