1997 GMC Safari back door problem

My 1997 GMC Safari Van’s back door on the driver’s side won’t open without a lot of cussing and kicking and sometimes gentle persuasion. My husband can open the door most of the time, but it has gotten to the point that I can’t. It is the one that opens after the other one is opened. What can I do?
