I have a 1997 GMC Sierra K2500 6.5L Turbo Diesel. I just experienced a problem with starting the car. The starter turns and turns yet fails to start. In addtion to this symptom, the instrument cluster doesnt light (no glow plug light no initialization no nothing). The truck has new batteries and all the fuses are good. Might this be the glow plug controller (much like the coil would be in a gasoline engine)? Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Thanks

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If all your instruments are out ,that may be incidental, another issue.Have you cracked the line at the return nipple on the injection pump or cracked the lines at the injector rail yet and cranked it to check for fuel delivery? If nothing. The ignition switch or bad ECM ground are most likely the problem. No instrumentsusually=no start on these. Heres the circuit.Make sure you check that maxi- fuse 40A.

Michael,
Thank you for your response. Although your initial thoughts turned out to be incorrect, the wiring diagram was quiet helpful. The problem turned out to be in the ignition switch wiring, but not the ground (though I had initially suspected this also). I cleaned all the contacts and resoldered, and well, now it works. I do thank you again for your timely response.

Kind regards,
