I've had a handfull of these with erratic Instrumentation due to loose or corroded battery cables. Check the cables, pull up on them...if they pivot on the center terminal, they're loose. Pay close attention to the positive cable(s), if the center bolt is tight; but the cables still pivot..you need to install (2) 3/8" flat washers inbetween them to remedy this. A minor voltage drop to the instrument cluster willl cause erratic performance. If the cables are good, the problem may lie in the cluster itself, however that is a rare failure.
