I have a 93 GMC jimmy 4wd 4.3L A/T w/ ABS. The front pads needed changing and since the pads and turned the rotors. The pads were replaced w/ Auto Zone Duralast product, mid range pads (semi-metallic).

With/in a couple days the pads were smelling like they were burning assumed break in and possibly drake cleaner on back of rotors. Latter I noticed one day when my son came home and we checked the air pressure in the tires the front brakes evidently got so hot driving in the city that a valve cap melted on one wheel (LF). The odd thing about it was they never felt like they were dragging. A couple times we noticed a sound like a clunk when we started forward motion from a stop but, could not identify the point of origin W/in a couple weeks the pads made a horrible grinding sound and the pads wore so fast, we had to disassemble the front breaks again and found the pads & rotors completely de
