My GM dealer fixed a popping sound in the front end of my 2004 Chevy Avalanche. When I got the truck back, the airbag sensor warning was on the display and the airbag light was lit on the dash. My dealer says they did nothing wrong and it was only a coincidence that this happened at the same time. By the way, they want to sell me a $300.00 sensor. Do you think they caused the problem? Is there anything I can do to reset this sensor light? (The controls on my steering wheel don't work any more either)

Optional Information:
2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 5.8 Vortec

Already Tried:
Changing the fuse under the hood

I would have a serious discussion with the dealer. If the popping noise that they fixed is the one that is common with these steering shafts then when they fixed it they may have caused the problem. If you can, find out for me what they fixed and what the recommend replacing now.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: They looked at the truck the next day. They said they did not screw up anything. Was this just a coincidence? They just lubricated the drive shaft. They want to replace the sensor in the steering wheel. It is a $300.00 part.

If they lubed the drive shaft then I would say they probably had nothing to do with it. The common problem I was talking about was the steering shaft. If this was messed with it, it could have caused the problem.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: My bad. They lubed the shaft on the steering column. Sorry for the mix up.

Not a problem. Then let me change my answer. It is highly possible then that they caused this problem. They were working in the general area of your current problem, and it is rare for this problem to occur on such a new vehicle. If the service writers will not help you then you need to speak with a service manager or the general manager. This really doesn't seem just like a coincidence.
