Question

Blowing a fuse in a 1995 GM truck

Sent to Car Experts May 14, 2006 8:43 p.m.

I have a 1995 GMC truck. It turns over but won't start. The fuse relay box shows that a 20 amp fuse keeps blowing;changed fuse many times.Cover box indicate's it as a ecm-b 20 amp fuse.also learned that it could be auto shut-off fuse.I want to know where to locate that also.

Optional Information:
1995 GMC K10753 4.3 liter

Already Tried:
I have tried changing the 20 amp fuse, checking the starter motor, and looking at the other fuses in the cab. So far nothing has worked. The engine cranks but it wouldn't start, as well it continues to blow the fuse.

If fused replaced does it blow as soon as key is turned to on position?

I believe the fuel pump circuit wich includes oil pressure switch is tied into this circuit. if you disconnect the fuel pump relay and see if fuse blows again if not your on the right track. let me know. I will check some things in the meantime, and get back to you.

you can try unplugging both relay and oil pressure switch. If still blowing I might start suspecting a bad wire from fuse panel to engine compartment I will get back to you tomorrw I want to get a better schematic of your vehichle

If you have diconnected both fuel pum relay and Fuel pump/ oil pressure switch located near distributor rear of engine 3 wires tan, org, and gray going to it and fuse still blows you will need to check for a short in the orange wire to ground on both the relay and pressure switch. remove fuse firstand disconnect neg battery terminal. The orange wire is paralled back to ecm-b fuse on both devices and also to ecm.If the fuse does not blow when both are diconnected I would expect the pressure switch to be faulty. Because you already tried just the relay disconnection. let me know, Fuel pump relay has org, red, gray, drk green/white trace, and black /with white trace wires going to it .
