I have a 1995 Geo Metro 4cyl 1.3 liter. I recently had the head gasket replaced and the head surfaced by a mechanic. I drove it no more than 15mi and it threw a rod. I saw the rod sticking out the side of the motor just above the crankcase. It looked like a push rod. Could this be the fault of the mechanic. He told me it was because the car had alot of miles on it. Thanks Denise

I think it is pretty ironic that I just had him take the engine apart and it throws a rod. Maybe you can explain a little what would cause a rod to go. I will then accept your answer. Thanks for being there to help me. Denise

The head gasket was replaced. I'm sure it was a push rod and I thought that was in the top of engine. Not the connecting rod for a piston. I know when you take the intake manifold off you see the rods and the lifters. I'm familiar with 350 chev engines but i assume they are similar. Thanks Denise

This motor does not have push rods.

This motor has an overhead camshaft.

But it very well could have been something long and similar to a push rod.

I would still think your mechanic is at fault
