troubleshooting a geo tracker
Sent to Car Experts May 23 05:22 PM

My question is i have a 95 Geo Tracker, manual transmission, the same as a Suzuki Samari.. about a year or so ago it would not turn over, brought it in and was advised that the clutch start switch needed to be replaced. so I replaced it. Now when i go to start the vehicle, it does not turn over. all the connections to the battery are fine, but the only way that it stats is by jamming the shift to the far right while turning the key??? any suggestions on what i need to replace in order to have the vehicle start normally??

  The post above is wrong.

That is procedure for changing the safety neutral switch in an automatic transmission. Your trans. only has the clutch switch I would look for loose bell housing or starter bolts or both. I think you have a bad ground at the starter.

There is no safety neutral switch on a Manuel transmission tracker

well I guess i still have the same question, if the gear shift when shoved to the right allows the vehicle to start, then what would be the problem.. and with doing this it has been increasingly hard to start, and you now really have to jam it to the right... sometimes it catches but most times not. besides the clutch start switch, is there possibly another switch that if went bad would give these symptoms?

thanks for the info, however the problem was found, and stupidly enough it derived from the solenoid. The third wire i guess it is the ignition wire was very loose in it's connection and i assume was not making full contact. cleaned it up and it started normally, it did before have the sound like it was laboring when starting, and now that too is gone. So i guess for all the info that was given, we appreciate it but the problem was unrelated to the answers we received.

Reply to enginboy's Post: again i appreciate all the helpful information and suggestions that were given. However, for some reason the ignition cable to the solenoid/starter was barely attatched. again thank you for all your helpful information.
