wipers problem
Sent to Car Experts April 09 01:23 AM

what would cause the wipers on a 96 chevy lumnia suv to only work on high speed. i thought the motor was bad but after playing with the wipers i found that they still worked but only high. at first they would work on all speeds but after a while only on high. maybe the switch is bad.

The switch is one of the possibilities. You will have to test for power switching when the switch is turned on. It could also be the delay circuit board on the motor. they have a lot of problems with those.

Use a test light either at the motor or the switch, whichever is easier to access, and look for a power reading to appear on one of the wires when the switch is turned to low speed. If you see the signal, the motor is bad, if not the switch is bad. I don't have a schematic in front of me to tell you specifically which wire but you will still be able to tell if any of the get hot in that position, (and off when switched off)
