I have a 1985 Coupe Deville and it wont downshift from 2nd to 1st when I come to a stop light, I have to put it in 1st and then back to drive before I can go agian. What is wrong?

 Without getting specific, it's generally a sign of major problems inside. Get it to a trans shop for some more specific diagnosis. Judging by the age of the car, it's the right timing for this.
