backfires on deacceleratio-dodge dakota 3.9

Backfires thru exaust on deacceleration only, warm or cold. Has new diverter valve & exhaust manifld. Doesn't have a engine miss & runs great except for the Customer (name blocked for privacy).
1990 Dodge Dakota 3.9 5 speed standard trans.

  The distributor, dist cap, Timing, timing chain, Should be checked Also I've seen a few 3.9's  tear up the distributor drive gear should be checked.

A new distributer cap was replaced earlier & did not cure the Customer (name blocked for privacy) at that time, also forgot to say only 45K miles on vehicle. Vehicle is also 4whl drive if that helps.

 9 out of 10 times you are going to find something wrong with the ingition timing I've seen those gears chew up around 40-50K
