We are stumped on our 84 Bronco 2. We have changed the EMC, distributor, both fuel pumps, plug wires , the injectors, pressure regulator, all engine sensors battery, added a ground and blew out all the fuel lines.,, ANd dropped the gas tank and cleaned it out thouroughly. We are still having a couple of problems that we just cant figure out. 1)it starts/turns over slowly like it has a resistence problem in the starter. But it only does this occasionaly. 2) it ran great for a week or 2 now it cuts out and dyes. Like its running out of fuel. There is a green wire run between the coil and the distributor, that we cant figure out what it does.We put a gauge on to test the fuel pressure and it has about 28 lbs pressure at an idol, but rev it up or turn the key off and it pegs to over 30 lbs. Any ideas what the problem or problems could possibly be?

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy),

Check your alternator and battery. I suspect the alternator is intermittently discharging or has a failed internal diode. It may have already caused damage to the battery. Your fuel pressure is right where it needs to be and the regulator putting out the correct amount of pressure when you rev it up. Here is the issue, The Computer uses a 5v reference signal to fire the fuel injectors and if it gets below or looses the 5v reference signal the fuel injectors will not fire. How is this possible?? If the alternator is failing to do its job or the battery is intermittently internally shorted it can cause this issue. Meaning the vehicle is running off the battery volts only and or drops voltage to the computer which shuts off the fuel injectors. This would also effect the starting characteristics of the vehicle. Other than that, looking to make sure you have a 5v reference at the fuel injectors at all times from the computer and it receives a negative trigger signal from the computer..there may be loose or bad connections. Also make sure there is no corrosion at on on the battery terminals. The first step i would Take would be to install a new or well know battery for testing.
