lights out

1998 mazda 626 - dash board lights and tail lights out. when i jiggle the blinker stick they come on. when i use the blinker they go off. can this easily and i mean easily be fixed or should i take it to a mechanic

  Since the taillights dashlights and turn signals are all on seperate circuits and don't even share the same fuse I would suspect that you have some damaged wires inside the steering column that are shorting. To repair this you will have to remove the steering wheel  including the airbag system.   Here is a link that shows you how to get the steering wheel off,then you'll have to find the electrical problem. If you have the tools and the confidence,you should be able to narrow down the problem once you get into the column.
