Question

COLD START

Sent to Car Experts January 22, 2005 11:54 a.m.

I HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. ON VERY COLD STARTS THE JEEP WILL START THEN QUICKLY IDLE DOWN ANDS SHUT OFF. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT ON AND DRIVE WITH AWAY LIKE THAT. IT WILL SHAKE FOR A WHILE UNTIL IT WARMS UP. THE COOLING SENSOR AND IDLE CONTROL VALVE HAS BEEN CHANGED HOWEVER THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. WHAT CAN BE THE CAUSE OF THIS?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

In the last two weeks my shop has seen 3 '98 to'00 Explorers do the same thing. When we would take a snap shot of the computer data, the computer clock seemed very slow. The fix on all three ended up being a new PCM. Also on the 4.0L w/ overhead cam has been known to have leaky intake manifold gaskets.

IS THIS AN EXSPENSIVE JOB? HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO PAY?
