Question

Pulling engine 98 Blazer 4.3L

Sent to Car Experts January 21, 2005 11:33 a.m.

How in the H_ _ _ do you get a 4.3 Vortek out of a 4x4 s-10 type blazer. I think GM started with a crank-shaft and built the truck around it. Does the transfer case, shifter, and tranny have to go bye-bye? Or is there a way to remove the front axle to get just the engine out? The normal fly-wheel tranny cover does not exist, does the bell-housing come apart? Would cutting the frame in half and rolling out the front of the truck be easier, (just kidding, kinda)? Engine is knocking and needs a rod and rebuild. Thanks,

What is the proper way to get a 4.3 out of a 4x4 S-10 type Blazer. Does the engine come out alone or do you have to drop or pull the tranny also? I am a few bolts away from trying to pull just the engine but would like advice from someone who has done this. Thanks, Regards,

Step 18 remarks that the body should be lifted. However, this is not for a 4.3L. Also, these instructions are for 1983 - 1993 Trucks. I have that book. They are not the same. Thank You anyway Engineboy. Regards,

I totaly forgot about the autozone links. Thanks. Hate to say that i already know every step in those instructions. It is nice to know what they DONT say to do. Got the bellhousing bolts licked. I assume you mean step 33 "loosen front body bolts". I cant see why that is neccesairy unless the back of the engine crashes into the body upon removal. Will know soon. Regards,
