Question

engine stalls

i have an 88 dodge shadow w/2.2 no turbo,auto. it starts up and runs a few seconds (5-10) and then stalls like it runs out of fuel,replaced fuel pump,pressure reg.and tb base gasket.have checked fuel pressure-55psi.any pointers

How long do you have to wait before engine will restart?

not sure how to check the codes,have no book.engine starts rite back up but continues to stall every time ,like something is telling it to shut down.

 Here's the procedure for displaying codes on that vehicle

Code retrieval can be accessed by the ignition key or by a diagnostic readout box(DRB).To obtain the codes using the key method,set the park brake,and put the vehicle in Park/neutral.
Some 95 and later OBDII vehicles, you may be able to retrieve OBDII codes with this procedure, if equipped with digital dash.

  • Turn the ignition key ON,OFF,ON,OFF,and finally ON again(ENGINE NOT RUNNING)
  • The codes will start to flash on the POWER LOSS or CHECK ENGINE light.
  • FLASH,pause,FLASH,FLASH=code 12

 

Post any codes found here for interpretation but in the meantime when the engine dies, you need to test for

1) spark at the plug

2) Injecter pulse with a noid light

I know you said you checked fuel pressure, but did you do this at the time it wouldn't start. It's very possible for the fuel pump top be cutting out for a few different reasons like the pump itself overheating or a bad relay.

checked codes and i got a 12-37-55. the engine will run by pumping the throttle and keeping the rpm up,let idle and it stalls.
