Well it is the 2.2 5 speed, and it is coming from the right side about where the passenger door is. I got under the Truck last night and I heard it while the vehicle was at idle. as the truck heated up and the idle smoothed out it went away. I am going to check again, someone else suggested a heat shield, but I didnt see anything like that. I heard it again when I was driving to work this morning, when the truck warmed up. I didnt hear it initially, when the truck was cold, but as the tem got warmer, the rattling came back. It is more prevalent on initial takeoff and then after 2nd or 3rd is no longer audible.

The reason I asked on the engine the 2.2 are well known for timing chain rattle, the hydraulic plunger that tightens the chain wears out, thats why chevy puts a high pressure oil pump in the motor. hard to diagnose your noise because its not consistant like it would be for a throw out bearing or input shaft bearing.

but I only have 43k on the truck. should that be something that would make noise as the engine heats up? I went ot just a minute ago and looked to see if anything was making noise, it sounds like something plastic rattling around in the front of the truck. I took a screwdriver to listen to see where the noise was coming from. I can safely say that I have eliminated the transmission. Woo Hoo. But the noise is still there, and I can feel the transfer through to the shifter. I would get under the truck a little more, but I am still at work. It sounds like something plastic rubbing against a metal part. would the timing chain make that noise? I appreciate your help so much.
