DODGE STEERING PROBLEM

I have a 96 Ram 1500 1/2 ton P U that has a leaking, remanufacted steering box when I bought it. There is 3 - 4 inches of play in the wheel. Reading so much about the problem, I bought a remanufactured 1 ton box. It is more HD, and would be one less problem regarding excessive play. Now I`m reading that the power steering pump might have to be replaced with a 1 ton to provide enough fluid to the box. Also, steering ratio would be different , since the 1 ton box doesn`t have power assist like the 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck box has.I also plan on replacing the steering wheel shaft with a Borgeson unit. Before I start, how do you recommend to proceed with this issue ?

  I would stick with the 1/2 ton steering box.  It may be possible to build a more durable steering system but how long do you plan on driving the truck? It also can be dangerous to alter the steering,  what are you using for an information system to determine the swap is safe?

 I agree with Jon was going to post the same thing I would stay stock unless you have spare wheels and deep pockets. I know I don't at least this time of year.
