2000 yukon xl service engine soon light light

2000 yukon xl service engine soon light light came on. has auto transmission. when i shift manually through the gears from first to 2nd there is no shift. fron 2nd to 3rd it shifts. from 3rd to (drive) 4th there is no shift. drives like it is only in 3rd gear when it is in Drive

Optional Information:
2000 Chevrolet yukon XL 5.3

Already Tried:
checked trans fluid, its good. had local parts store check computer it would not read anything, said it could not interface with computer. could not find any loose vacuum hoses but did not look underneath

Hi!

The code that set is in the TCM . The scan tool they use can only read codes set in the main computer. You need to go to a trans shop or a shop that can get in and read the code/s set.

When the code/s set the computer put the trans in a limp home mode thats why you only have 3rd gear. I would get it to a shop before anymore damage can be done to it.

So i just paid $15 for you to tell me to take it to a shop and get it fixed?
