automatic transmission
Sent to Car Experts December 03 12:15 PM

I just changed the transmission fluid in a 1995.5 Honda Passport. According to the Owners Manual the capacity of the system is 9 quarts. When I drained the fluid I found that the pan holds only holds 3 to 4 quarts. Where is the rest of the fluid and how would I change it? Please advise!

The total capacity for the transmission and torque converter is 9 quarts. When you change the fluid you are just changing the oil that is in the pan. By doing this you remove any debris that is in the pan along with the reserve fluid. There is no need to drain the trans completely like with an engine oil change. You are fine.
