Question

Can't put gas into my Mustang?

Sent to Car Experts October 17, 2006 11:15 p.m.

I am down to one question on my 06 Mustang that has been in wreck/flood (dash high). You can not put gas in it. It fills up the neck. I have removed the hose at the tank and the hose is not stopped up. I can't see but I can feel a plastic piece at the inlet that I assume its stops the gas and I can push it down easily with a finger .I hooked up the hose again but no luck. I had drained the gas tank so I removed the hose again and pushed down the part and stuck a hose beside it so I could get in some gas. Could anyone tell me how to repair it or what my problem is? I have a service C/D from Ford but do not see any part on the tank break down? Thanks!

Hello,

Check your vent hose to make sure it is not stopped up. If the vent hos is stopped up it will not allow the tank to fill. It is kinda like opening a can of juice and not putting 2 holes in it. One on each side so the can does not create a vacuum. Your gas tank is the same. If it can't vent then the air in the tank will prevent the gas from going in due to the air not having any way to escape.

Hope this helps.....PLEASE ACCEPT

Thanks, Dean

Dean, I am accepting your answer but I had another queston related. I found the vent tube line and unhook it and the gas went down. I blew thur the tube where I unhooked it and it seem to let the air out. I hooked it back up and did the same thing. The tube goes into a covered box and then a line leaves there heads back up to a area above the gas tank I can't see. Thanks for any help and I after I send this I am hitting the acept button. Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you. The box will be your evap canister. Since the vehicle was in a flood it may be full of water. There is charcoal in the box to filter fumes. You may have to replace it.

Hope this helps....Thank you very much!!!!!
