I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, 4x4. I'm getting a low level noise from the front wheels. Sounds like an airplane type noise. It's louder at low speeds but still hear it at high speeds. At first, thought it was tires. Added 4 new wranglers. Noise is still there. Noticed that the sound increases a bit when turning. Wheels have rubber boots for grease in back. Is it wheel bearings or lack of grease. Can I add grease some how, without destroying the boot. Thank yuo for your advice in advance.

Greetings! Sounds like u have bad wheel bearings. Adding grease most likely will not help. But it does not hurt to try! I rec to get them replaced by the pairs. Try to figure out if the noise is coming from the front or rears. Than that way u dint have to replaced all four.

Reply to amedee's Post: Understand your answer, but how do you get the grease int the rubber sealed boots behind each front wheel?

Your wheel bearings are not made to add grease. The only way u can try is to take off the front tire and loosen up the axle and push it in so u can try to get some grease in there.
