'93 Accord Cold Start Problem

Sent to Car Experts October 13 02:50 PM

My '93 Accord is having trouble starting. It will turn over but not start in the morning. If I try around noon I can get it to eventually start. Once the initial start is achieved, it will start the rest of the day. I have recently replaced the main relay, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor. Where might my problem be?

Greetings!
I would check the fuel pressure regulator. It is located on the fuel rail. It is round, about a quarter size and has a vacuum line going to it. If the regulator is leaking gas than it can cause this problem. Pull off the vacuum line that goes to the regulator. Be absolutely sure there is no gas in the vaccum line. If there is, the diaphram has ruptured and there is gas entering the engine that is not accounted for and the regulator will need to be replaced!

Reply to amedee's Post: I checked the vacuum line and did not see any gas in it. I also looked over the part on the fuel pressure regulator and did not see any traces of gas in it either. Any other thoughts?

All u have to do is ohm it out. Dissconect it and and take a ohm meter across the terminals.

Reply to amedee's Post: We checked it cold and hot and both are in line. We also tested the supply volts and that is in line as well. Third try is the charm?

U could have a bad fuel pump. I would rec to check fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump!

Relist: I still need help.
I am still having trouble with cold starts. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor, starter and fuel filter. I have tested OK for spark, fuel coming to the rail, pressure at the rail, battery and PGM-FI relay. I have also cleaned the battery cables.

Right now the temp. is very low so I can't get it started to do some other tests.

Please guide me to what I should check next. I'm running out of ideas, time and patience!!
