The trooper starts up for only 6 secounds and dies every time.

Sent to Car Experts October 10 08:31 PM

My name is Rudy. I have a 1990 isuzu trooper and I started to have problems with it cutting off. It would start right back up. But now, what it does, it will start up but for 6 seconds and then cut off. The first time it happen 10 month or so, it was the connections to the fuel pump. Now it's something different. I change the fuel pump and filter and check things the manual suggested. But the problem is still there. Can you please help me with this problem. A employee that works for isuzu did not know.

Check engine light on at all?

If you hold the throttle open a little...will it keep running?

When you immediately try to restart it, does it do the same exact thing?

It sounds like either the MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR is unplugged, not plugged in all the way or it's defective.

The MAF sensor is mounted on the air cleaner housing...should be aluminum with a black plastic lid-should say Hitachi on it-should have 4 or 5 pin connector.

To Sparkybuoy. I replace the MAF today. I had to jump the truck, it started right up. I had some smoke come out hte tail pipe and it idle a little high at first and then level out. All was will until I turn on the lights and put it into gear, it cut off. And now it started doing it all over again. It look as if it was a little flooded. So I will try it tomorrow. Please let meknow if there's anything else I need to do. I have some friends checking into the problem as well. Because I throught we had the problem solved. I will see tomorrow night.
